5 Tips for Entrepreneurs to Stay Motivated

As we embrace 2015 with open arms and begin to work toward all of the awesome ideas we have, it’s important that we keep that excitement going throughout the year. As entrepreneurs, the reality is that burnout happens and moments of feeling uninspired can creep up on us like the boogie man (smile). If you begin to feel uninspired, consider these 5 tips.

1) Focus on the future, not the past.

There is nothing that you can do to change the past. Perhaps you hit a few road bumps during your small business journey or you regret some decisions that you made. No matter the situation, the best thing to do is direct your energy and attention to what you can do to be successful in the future.

2) Connect with other entrepreneurs.

Attend networking events and join professional organizations that will allow you to meet and bond with other entrepreneurs. This will help you build your own community of like-minded individuals who understand the good, the bad, and the ugly of entrepreneurship. Having moments where you can connect with your community can eliminate feelings of loneliness and could potentially provide you with valuable support such as future advice and small business lessons.

3) Begin your day with a positive affirmation.

The saying, ‘We are what we eat,’ is true as it relates to what we consume from our environment. Digest positivity and reprogram your mind with the right thoughts, instead of those that can lower your energy and confidence. At the top of the day, take a moment to reflect and say aloud a positive statement that describes a situation you desire. An example is, “Today will be an awesome day!” You could also download a free app that conveniently provides you with daily affirmations.

4) Stay in touch with your reasons for starting your small business.

What was your original purpose for launching a small business? What did you hope to accomplish? Take a moment to revisit your reasons for starting a company so that you don’t lose sight of who you are and your intentions. Let it be your fuel to reenergize you when you are feeling down and need to be reminded of the big picture.

5) Take a break.

It’s easy to give 1,000% to your business and not think twice. It has your name on it and there is no one more concerned about its success than you. With that said, learn how to take a break. There are two breaks you should master. One break is physically leaving your work location and learning how to do a non-related work activity (exercise or time with friends and family is helpful). The second break is taking a vacation where you travel somewhere and focus on you. The goal in taking either break is to renew your mind, body, and spirit.

Have fun with your business; however, pay attention to any signs of a shift in your attitude. In order to operate at your highest level, you have to stay motivated.

Wishing you all the best, Business Rock Stars!

Be strategic!
